Lightning bolt kills Colorado woman, horse

Our hearts go out to these families from Douglas County, Colorado, after a woman and her horse were killed and a teenager was seriously injured from lightning Sunday afternoon.

According to KRDO NewsChannel 13, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported a 37-year-old woman and the horse she was riding died on scene. A 15-year-old girl, who was also riding, was seriously injured and transported to a hospital. The teenager was conscious and breathing when officials arrived on scene, but the condition of her and her horse is unknown.

The two were riding on an equestrian trail between Sedalia and Roxborough State Park when the storm hit.

According to the Denver Post,  there was visible lighting and the two were trying to stay ahead of the storm. The lightning bolt struck about 10 feet from where the woman and horse went down.
