Missouri dairy farm loses 32 cows to lightning

Our thoughts are with these Springfield, Missouri dairy farmers who lost 32 cows over the weekend to lightning. According to the Springfield News-Leader, Jared Blackwelder and his wife, Misty, some some lightning Saturday morning after the morning feeding, but it wasn’t until Jared headed back to the pasture to fetch the cows for their evening milking, he saw the devastation. His 32 dairy cows were all piled up on each other and dead. A veterinarian confirmed the cows had been struck by lightning.

The Wright County – Missouri Farm Bureau shared the Blackwelders’ story on Facebook and the agricultural community from around the world has sent their condolences to the family.
