Arizona dairy uses fitbits to check herd health

· May 24, 2017

Fitbits aren’t just a useful gadget to track human health; they can also assist with herd health. Danzeisen Dairy has 1,000 cows wearing pedometers on their farm near Laveen, Arizona and if one of those cows doesn’t get their 12,000 steps in a day, there could be a health issue.

For example, if there is a spike in steps, the owners have found that the cow could be in heat and ready to breed. If she falls below her average, it could be something as small as a pebble in her foot that is causing problems walking.
