Farmer rescues week-old alpaca stuck in badger hole

· July 26, 2016

There are a lot of issues on a farm that a good shovel can solve. Perhaps one of the most unusual is digging a baby alpaca out of a badger hole.

But that’s exactly what happened this spring at the family farm of John and Julie Govin in Menomonie, Wisconsin. The baby alpaca was missing for 24 hours before John found it stuck in the hole up to its neck. With a good bit of care, John dug around the cria’s neck, ultimately able to create enough room to lift the little one out of the hole.

The one-week-old cria got a touching reunion with its mother before the pair scurried away.
