Our 6 favorite song covers from The Cleverlys

Published:

I still remember the first time I heard The Cleverlys — it was a cover of The Black Eyed Peas’ hit “I Gotta Feeling,” and I probably listened to it three of four times in a row before eagerly looking for more music by this goofy cover band. If you’ve heard them before, you’ll know why I use the word “goofy”; if you’ve never heard them before, then saddle up! Their covers are nothing like what you’d expect coming out of this group — they’re fun and clever (I mean, it’s right in the band name) in their take on these popular tunes.

The Cleverlys have a couple of dozen videos that they’ve posted, some a few years old while others are within the past couple of years. And we got to talk with the founder of The Cleverlys in 2019, when their album, “Blue,” dropped.

It’s common that when someone discovers The Cleverlys for they first time, they forward me a video. So it’s probably best to showcase some of the band’s best work here.

These are our six favorite cover songs from The Cleverlys. Get ready to have a good time:

1. “I Gotta Feeling”

Since I mentioned it above, it’s probably no surprise this is on the list.

2. “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”

A stellar tribute to Beyonce’s most iconic song.

3. “Low (Apple Bottom Jeans)”

Even if you don’t know T-Pain’s hit by the song title, the opening lines to the tune are some of the most popular of the 2000s.

4. “Loser”

Every high schooler in the ’90s knows this Beck song well.

5. “Walk Like an Egyptian”

You’re thinking about doing the dance right now, aren’t you?

6. “Gangnam Style”

The original video by Psy was one at one point the biggest song on YouTube.

Definitely check out The Cleverlys if you ever get a chance! We’ve seen them live in concert before, and they’re even more fun that way!
