I get a lot of questions about how we handle butchering farm animals with the kids around. It's honestly never been a huge deal for us– we don't force it on them, but we don't hide it from them either. They are always present on processing day, and they can choose how much they'd like to be involved. Prairie Girl has taken more of an interest this year (especially in the anatomy part), while Prairie Boy pops in and out, alternating watching with playing. . We don't act like it's scary or gross, and they don't either. They know right from the beginning which of our animals are destined for the dinner table and they are OK with it. My kids aren't too savvy with the latest cartoons or action figures, but you can bet they know where their food comes from.
