"Quieting Down" With no animals around as the sun's rays stretch across this abandoned barn, the country air is filled only with the rustle of the wind. A half century ago, our farm noises lessened as the cattle were fed and the tractors retired for the night. Soon the night air was filled with the quiet voices of our family returning to the house from doimg chores to eat supper together. #HASHTAGS | I recently launched a free, downloadable #ag hashtag list over on Facebook, and the response has been amazing. ? Don’t worry, I tested this list out before I released it too. Some of the hashtags listed are controversial, and you’re going to be wondering, why did I list #nongmo as an option? Well. It sparks conversation, which is key. I’m not saying bash someone for being with or against the non-gmo movement; hear them out, find out why they feel that way. You’re not going to change everyone’s mind. ? Use this hashtag list to build your reach, engagement and following inside and outside of the ag industry, maybe make some sales and let me know how it works for you. The link to download is in my bio.

Being in the country is like being in a dream–one doesn't quite know who one is. There is an anonymity to it all–that strange human desire that is me, one among all. –Meia Geedes, Love Letters to the World ____________________ Hilltop Barn series, 1 of 3. ____________________ #barn #barnsofinstagram #midwestbarns #iowafarmer #ia_ag #iowaag #agdaily @iowa_agriculture @agriculture_worldwide #american_agriculture_ @usa_agriculture #rural #rural_love #ruralexposures #backroad_visions #takeabackroad #graveltravel #country_features #countryroads #countryliving #country_vibe #thisisiowa #iowascape #myiowa #highlightiowa #exploreiowa #iowagrams #aroundiowa #onlyiniowa @capture_iowa @515grammers @iowatography_ig #ig_iowa #nocoastcollective #rustic_wonders #midwest_captures

Most of us know what this is ??? ? It’s a feed bunk that has had snow scooped out of it, and grain dumped into it. We know that cows are going to be let in the gate, they’ll gather around to eat their portion, and then file back out to the pasture. ? We know what the ingredients of the grain ration are. The corn, protein pellets, soybean hulls, whatever we choose to include. ? We know that cows are hungry E V E R Y day, snow and freezing temps or not. ? But, you know who doesn’t know any of that? Most consumers. Wouldn’t it be cool if they did? ? Don’t take what you do for granted. What seems small, insignificant, boring, or routine to us producers…is new information to them. ? Look through the farming photos you already have. Pick one, and explain it to someone. Online or in person, doesn’t matter. Just do it! #TheFarmStory
