There's (almost) no season I look forward to more than haying… so we have NOT had any rain, and I have NOT made a single bale (*sigh*), but we've started 7-10 days earlier than normal, hay has been put up dry, looks to be in excellent quality, and yields are lower in some places and actually on par or slightly higher in others. This guy is pretty lucky he's got such great help by his side! Janie was the one who heard him making coffee at 4:45 this morning and got up to help him do all the morning chores, but Maisie was out there with him all day yesterday. (It's hard not to hear him these days since it's too hot to sleep upstairs in the attic and they all sleep on the couch!) Spending two days in the bootheel means getting to see fields of rice and cotton. Rice fields are flooded all summer long and drained just before harvest.
