Hometown history: . Farmers around my hometown of Stanford, IL (just found out that this includes my grandpa!) once grew popcorn for Cracker Jack. 🍿 . Harvested ears were taken to these cribs in town. We know that the main crib went up in 1936 and the round cribs were added in 1958, but haven’t figured out how long Cracker Jack contracted popcorn to be grown here. Notice how gaps between slats in the larger crib are really narrow compared to a regular corn crib. 🌽 . These cribs are conveniently located where the Chicago-Alton railroad came through town, so it was easy to ship popcorn up to Cracker Jack’s facilities in Chicago. The large white crib still stands today. . . #history #aghistory #ruralhistory #hometown #crackerjack #popcorn #farm #farming #farmhistory #corncrib #oldbuilding #agchat #agriculture #agdaily

🐕National dog day🐶 A shout out to all good cowdogs, but especially Hank and Hadley on the Christensen Ranch. Its been a good year for these Border Collie ranch hands. Dad had some good snuggles with the last puppy headed to a new family. Hank and Hadley got to go for a ride with me. The puppies snagged a "drive through" meal while their mom was trying to work. Hank had a birthday cone, but he doesn't understand how you can be patient enough to lick ice cream. And Hank has serenaded the countryside with his rendition of "o my gosh i am so much faster than the four wheeler." Happy national dog day to our Border Collie Ranch Hands! #bordercollie #bordercollieranchhand #gooddog #agdaily #nationaldogday #dogsofinstagram
