Evening ride. Might be this ole Ma's last ride for a few weeks. A bad fall night before last while doing a late night barn check and landed in the ER. Imaging revealed some damage to the pelvis and hips though thankfully nothing was broken. Uncle Howard and Gramps, our two truck drivers. These guys have been driving side by side since they were teenagers, back in the good ole days. The trucks have changed over the years but the jokes, the three finger back road waves and the smiles sure haven’t. For me, as the 7th generation, I’ve been lucky to be taught how to drive truck by these two, maybe before it was even legal but that’s small town life right?! And well into retirement these guys are still the first to jump into the trucks and are ready to go when we need them for cropwork. Working side by side with multiple generations of the family is something we don’t take for granted because the knowledge and experience that these two have from where they started as teenagers to where we are today is immeasurable. To me that’s the definition of a Family Farm and my reason why.

One of the most heartbreaking scenes to see. An early morning storm produced wicked lightning and struck this barn. It wasn’t long and the barn was nothing more than a frame. ?.
