If you have ever had the great opportunity to be the gate man while working cattle, you can appreciate working with people with good communication skills. I don't think there are too many jobs that are more thankless on the ranch than being the one to run the gate. Especially when you have no idea what is going on (even when you think you know what is going on, you are probably still wrong), and the only one that does is the boss. No matter how hard you try to keep up with the thoughts running through the boss man's mind, the cow's minds, and keep track of everything else, you are inevitably going to get it wrong and let the dang cow go the wrong way. I hate being the gate man, because there is too much responsibility and if you let a cow out that should have stayed in, you get yelled at, and have to be the one to cut her back out of the herd. And I don't know about you, but I don't need that kind of negativity in my life 🤣

DADS | it’s your weekend coming up. We all know you deserve more than one day of recognition. For all the Dads and dad figures out there, you are irreplaceable. We couldn’t do life without you. You ground us, love us, and give us belly laughs until we can’t take it. In a world focused on “woman power!” I am thankful to be surrounded by the type of men that wouldn’t let a woman do it all on her own. We weren’t designed to, and God bless you for not letting the ladies think they have to. // highlight reel in my stories of Dads I’ve had the privilege to capture recently 😘 #happytrailsphotography #htpcowboyinfamily #htpfamilies . . . #ranch #horse #cattle #workinghorse #ranchlife #ranchwife #ranching #conchoculture #westernhorseman #americancowboy #cowboy #canon #canonusa #horse #cowboy #horseandcowboy #western #westernart #westernlifestyle #ranchlife #ranching #ranch #ranchhorse #chasinglight #workingranchmagazine #cowboy_features

His hands are scarred from welding burns, rope burns, and wire cuts. His fingers are misshapen from being smashed by hammers, pinched in equipment, and being in the wrong place at the wrong time. His face has been weathered by the sun, the wind, and stress. His hair is falling out thanks to his kids, his wife, and his occupation. His once lean body has thickened, which he will likely blame on his wife's cooking and the cold beers in his fridge. He's helped bring life into this world, and watched it leave. He secretly loves to see babies be born- calves and foals and puppies, especially; but admits the moments the doctor handed him his own babies were the proudest moments of his life. He puts in long hours behind the wheel, behind the scenes, and out in front. Life weighs heavy on his heart and on his mind. He is no stranger to work, and isn't afraid to get dirty. He'll cuss a blue streak, yet you'll likely find him bowing his head on bended knees in that little church on Sunday morning. The life he chose hasn't been easy. He's seen good times, when the calves were worth their weight in gold. He's lived through the tough years, where fires and bankers and drought threatened to take this piece of dirt from him and his family. He is a man whose word means everything; a man who worships God, but sins nevertheless. He's an ordinary guy, who loves his country and his family, and has stood up to protect both. He is a husband, a brother, a son, but best of all, a father. A man who cares for his own babies with a tender heart and a firm hand. He is a teacher, a leader, a prankster, and a preacher. He is a little boy who grew up and settled down, but never lost that boyish charm. And we are thankful for him every day. With love, Richelle
