I (@reb_hilby) get asked often how it do it all, keep life balanced, make it through the day….. short answer? I don’t. Not by myself at least. Being a farmer is hard. Being a mom is hard. Doing both together? Not easy! (Unless you have super powers – in which case teach me your ways!) I am so thankful to have family that can watch Sophia when I have busy days at work. My husband also works second shift so he has her most mornings unless he needs to help out a local beef farmer. When I have Sophia at the farm, my coworkers are amazing with her. The first year or so she came with me every day just because it was easier with breastfeeding. Now that she’s mobile, it’s a whole new set of challenges on the farm. • • • There are a few things I’ve learned in the past 15 months. • One- you are not a superhuman. You can’t do it all yourself and have sanity. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Will you feel guilty? Probably. But it’s okay. #momguilt • • Two- It’s okay if your house is a mess. At least I hope it is. Mine looks like a tornado went though. But you know what? It’s spring, there are a million things to do outside, and having a clean house just isn’t on the top of my priorities. I did however finally get the dishes done because my SIL is watching Sophia before I head back to work & I have a meeting tonight. • • Three – take time for yourself. I’m not very good at this, but even if I just let Sophia play by herself while I watch my favorite show on TV (Grey’s Anatomy anyone?) let’s me escape for awhile. Or some mornings before work I run to Dunkin’ and grab a coffee. #treatyoself • • Lastly, and most importantly – it’s okay to have bad days. It’s okay to feel stressed and overwhelmed. BUT you learn to move on and make the next day better. Whether you’re struggling with tantrums, infertility (which sucks, by the way!), mom guilt, milk prices, whatever – be sad and then find your happy place again! • • I’m no expert, but hopefully this helps at least one person!
