It isn't east being a woman in agriculture and it isn't easy saying that as a man. I'm a late comer to this party but it's not hard to see the difficult position of just simply being a woman in a very traditional industry. There often is a sense that a woman is valued by her family, that a ranch wife is simply that, a ranch wife, not a rancher. The women themselves often judge and criticise women who haven't yet had families that do work full time in agriculture. "You'll understand when you have a family." "You will slow down". Maybe she will keeping ranching just fine with that family. Maybe YOU will come to understand when she too has a family what she is truly capable of like I do. A woman who will always be a rancher and maybe one day my wife. I see no fault with whatever path any woman chooses, I only see fault in criticism of pursuit of dreams and happiness. I celebrate Melanie, who has to weather the family business, working with her dad and boyfriend, facing a stigma because she left the ranch and came back to wonder how she fits in, the social media posts by neighbors and acquaintances in agriculture discussing if the world would be a better place if women just stayed home and were moms, the ups and downs of a tough industry and simply too much damn ice and bad weather. Happy international women's day @mt_ranchlyfe
