BASF’s Poncho Votivo becomes ‘Field of Dreams’ site partner

Another major agricultural brand has announced a partnership at the Field of Dreams Movie Site in anticipation of Thursday’s baseball game between the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs. BASF Agricultural Solutions’ Poncho Votivo seed treatment, which for the past decade has been used on the farmland where the classic 1989 movie Field of Dreams was filmed, is the official seed treatment partner of the Movie Site.

This week’s baseball game marks the second installment of the special event, following the first-ever Major League Baseball game played in Iowa last summer. MLB constructed an 8,000-seat ballpark next to the Dyersville, Iowa, movie filming site. A pathway through a cornfield takes fans to the ballpark, which will overlook the famous movie location.

Earlier this week, it was announced that DEKALB, Bayer’s national flagship corn brand, is the Official Corn Seed of MLB at Field of Dreams presented by GEICO. Andy Rahe, who farms the Field of Dreams land in Dyersville, has long been been using DEKALB seed and Poncho Votivo seed treatment at the location.

Field of Dreams — starring Kevin Costner, Ray Liotta, James Earl Jones, and Amy Madigan — was nominated for Best Picture in 1990. Adapted from W. P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel, Shoeless Joe, the 1989 film tells the story of Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, a husband and father who is tending to his cornfield when he hears a mysterious voice intone, “If you build it, he will come.” Following his vision, Kinsella builds a baseball diamond in his field and is visited by ghosts of baseball legends. Ultimately, the attraction of baseball allows him to save the family farm.

“We’re excited to partner with BASF and Poncho Votivo seed treatment at the Field of Dreams Movie Site,” said Dan Evans, Chief Operating Officer of the Field of Dreams Movie Site. “The cornfields are a key player at our site, and we value the major role that agriculture plays in the Dyersville community and the state of Iowa.”

The Field of Dreams Movie Site is free to visit and open to the public year-round. Fans can immerse themselves in the small-town atmosphere by renting the home where the beloved movie was shot. Visitors will feel like they’re in the movie in the newly remodeled three-bedroom farm home, complete with fantastic views of the iconic baseball field and cornfields right outside the home. Fans can also take a 30-minute guided tour of the home and visit the online store, which has gifts that will fulfill any baseball fan’s wishes.
