Farm Credit Mid-America providing free mental health services

Published:

Farm Credit Mid-America has launched the LifeWorks Resource Program, a new, free resource for rural and farmer customers across Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Tennessee. LifeWorks Resource Program helps customers and their families navigate a variety of personal and work-related challenges by providing confidential access to information, resources, and one-on-one support 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“As an organization that exists to secure the future of rural communities and agriculture, we prioritize the well-being of our customers and the communities where they live and work,” said Bill Johnson, Farm Credit Mid-America president and CEO. “This means providing them with information, training, and tools that may benefit their lives and their operations.”

This is the second significant well-being announcement by the financial services cooperative in the last year. Farm Credit Mid-America is also a sponsor of the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s “Got Your Back” campaign, which also offers resources for farmers who may be experiencing stress.

According to a 2019 poll commissioned by the American Farm Bureau Federation, financial issues, farm or business problems, and fear of losing the farm are all significant concerns affecting the mental health of farmers and their families. The poll also revealed nearly half of rural adults are personally experiencing more mental health challenges than they were a year prior.

Support services available through LifeWorks Resource Program range from resolving emotional difficulties and dealing with stress, anxiety, or depression to finding resources within the local community and working towards life goals. In case of a crisis, farmers or their family members may speak immediately with an experienced counselor who will listen to their concerns, provide support, and contribute to a resolution.

“LifeWorks Resource Program is another way we are able to support our customers in both good and challenging times.”
