A Hazel, Kentucky farmer’s clever rescue of his calf from a frozen pond has created quite a buzz on social media. And as Walter Mehr told Kentucky New Era, the rescue was anything, but easy.
While the video is just over three minutes, Mehr estimates the entire process, including preparing the lasso and wood, took about 30 minutes.
“Day on the farm Monday. 15 degrees and I discovered a 5 day old calf somehow got stranded in the middle of a pond, she could not stand up on the ice. Had to rescue her somehow.”
