New Carhartt gear has you set for the season

Published:

When Mother Nature gets unpredictable — something she’s apt to do during the rainy/sunny/chilly/sometimes snowy season of spring — it’s no surprise that many farmers turn to their Carhartt gear to shield themselves. Carhartt has long been a fan-favorite of those who brave the elements both professionally and personally.

The brand is synonymous with rural life, and for good reason. Not only are their coveralls, jackets, pants, and other clothing items well recognized as durable staples of farm life, but the company often takes the time to show its love for us in rural areas.

So we got the opportunity to test out a few new clothing items and see how they perform around the farm. Through and through, we were pleased with the gear, and we hope that you would be, too, if you gave it a shot.

Here are four awesome items from the Carhartt gear shelves (two for men; two for women) that we wore into our fields and pastures:

MEN’S

carhartt review

$49.99: Rugged Flex Rigby Double Front Pant

I can be pretty picky about having just the right kind of farm pants — something that I can move well in, but isn’t so baggy that it’s going to get snagged on a barb every time I have to walk the fence line. The Rugged Flex pant checked all the boxes and has replaced everything else I have as my new go-to farm pants. They’re flexible enough for when I have to pound some staples into the bottom board, but they’re also durable enough to deflect wood chips when I’m splitting logs. And they have pockets that can hold lots of items in just a way as to not feel like you’re bogged down with gear. The comfort is top-notch.

Features:

  • 8-ounce, 98% cotton / 2% spandex canvas
  • Built to move with Rugged Flex stretch technology
  • More room to move with a comfortable fit through the seat and thigh and a straight leg
  • Double-layer knees with openings for adding knee pads and cleaning out debris
  • Reinforced front slash pocket
  • Secure right-leg cell phone pocket
  • Left-leg utility pocket
  • Hidden zip back pocket
  • Comfortable gusseted crotch for more stretch between the legs
  • Strong sewn-on-seam belt loops
  • Model height: 6’2″; Chest size: 40.5″; Wearing size 32 x 32

carhartt Dry Harbor

$79.99: Dry Harbor Waterproof Breathable Jacket

Too many of us have seen some pretty intense wet weather over the past year. And while there are indications of the jet stream changing and giving us a break, I had ample opportunity to give the Dry Harbor Waterproof Jacket a test. Spring rains were in force the first time I put this jacket on to head out to feed the animals, and impressively, with a secure hood and real rain-stopping power, this jacket kept my torso 100 percent dry. The sizing ran just a bit larger than I expected, but I also didn’t have anything but a T-shirt on underneath it — the extra room will surely be nice once colder weather rolls around and I have to layer my clothes. The jacket cinches up at the waist if you so choose, but I run hot a lot, so leaving it looser aided breathability. It also had a nice interior pocket at the hip which kept my phone secure and dry while doing chores.

Features:

  • 5.4-ounce, 100% nylon shell; 10K / 5K waterproof breathable protection rating
  • Storm Defender waterproof, breathable technology stops water from getting in but lets sweat get out
  • Two-layer membrane with Rain Defender® durable water repellent (DWR) keeps you dry and moving in light rain
  • Fully-taped, waterproof seams
  • Visor on hood for extra coverage; Adjustable cord lock on hood
  • Full-length zipper with outer and inner storm flaps
  • Hook-and-loop adjustable cuffs; Adjustable cord lock on hem
  • Chest pocket
  • Two lower front pockets with zipper closures and storm flaps
  • Interior drop-in pockets
