Farmer Katie gives a peek into harvest on a dairy farm


As most students are home right now due to COVID-19, it is important to fill their time with fun, educational items. For the past five weeks, American Dairy Association North East has highlighted different dairy farmers with a weekly educational video series. For the sixth week Farmer Katie is back to give us a behind-the-scenes look at life at Cow Comfort Inn Dairy. 

The series can be viewed every day this week, Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 1, at 10 a.m. ET on the American Dairy Association North East Facebook page. This week’s videos along with more information can be found on the American Dairy Association North East website

Springtime means harvest time for Farmer Katie. Learn how crops on her farm are harvested and turned into feed for her dairy cows. Farmer Katie posted on the Cow Comfort Inn Dairy Facebook page, “I’ll be sharing what has been happening at the farm in fun 10 minute segments geared towards kids with a mini Spanish lesson at the end of each one!”

On Monday’s video, Farmer Katie talks about the importance of triticale on the dairy farm. Farmer Katie talks about how they harvest, store, and feed triticale to her dairy cows.
