Visit Northeast Iowa: One of America’s best kept secrets

Published:

I absolutely love being a farmer in Northeast Iowa. But I think sometimes, when people think of Iowa, they think of flat lands and corn.

Not in OUR area!!

The majestic rolling hills, bluffs, rivers, and eagles will take your breath away. They call this the driftless area, and it’s one that wasn’t affected by glaciers thousands of years ago like other parts of the Midwest were … geological terrain unique to the world. We are right along the Mississippi River and close to Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, about 45 mins north of Dubuque, Iowa.

The area is full of state parks like Pikes Peak and Effigy Mounds, casinos, breweries and wineries, and plenty of spots to get your feet wet through kayaking, fishing, hunting, and boating. Also a great place for birdwatching and photography enthusiasts … there really is something for everyone here!

If this sounds like it’s up your alley, I’d highly recommend a visit. Especially since fall is coming and the trees will be changing colors … it really is a sight to see along the Mississippi River. And there’s one place I recommend for the best views and most amazing place to stay, and that is the Eagle View Motel and Retreat. Perched 250 feet (about 25 stories) up, Eagle View Motel is in a great location in Guttenberg, Iowa, and boasts views like this:

Considering our area of Northeast Iowa isn’t densely populated, there really aren’t a lot of lodging options … you won’t find Hilton or Marriott chains here! Our quaint river community of Guttenberg is known for tranquility, antiques, and shopping, where you can watch barges and trains while taking a stroll along the river walk. Guttenberg was also named the 2019 River Town of the Year by Iowa Rivers Revival.

The Eagle View Motel and Retreat is a little escape that allows you to recharge your batteries while being in touch with nature. Let’s face it, nature offers unrivaled mental and spiritual therapy to unwind, and this view especially allows you to take in the stars and crisp fall air to heighten your senses. But, if cocktails and casual dining are your thing, there’s plenty of that here, too.

It should also be noted that the motel is under new ownership, all the rooms are newly remodeled, AND they offer a variety of budget-friendly options and great discounts through the week!

What sort of weekday discounts, you say? Up to 50% off. And since there are only seven rooms, it is feasible to rent out the entire motel for family and friends for as little as $350 a night! As two of the rooms have 2 beds (7 queen beds/1 king/1 queen sleeper sofa) it’s possible for up to nine couples stay at once, and a kitchenette is available. That is less than $40 per night per couple! Perfect for retirees or other people with flexible schedules who can take advantage of weekday specials.

Rooms are non-smoking and very clean with great water pressure and beds, but smoking is allowed on the property. Small pets may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with a small fee. Children must be supervised at all times due to the location on top of a bluff, and there’s free WiFi in every room.

Call 563-252-1653 or visit www.eagleviewmotel.com for details and to book. Mention the Farm Babe for 10% off! I sure love our little slice of Heaven … from the famed “Field of Dreams” movie quote:

“Is this Heaven?
No… it’s Iowa!”

P.S. “The Field of Dreams” is also only 25 miles from the property. 🙂

Enjoy!
