Blueberries are where it’s at this July, and National Blueberry Month is kicking off with a 31-day campaign to benefit No Kid Hungry! Families can “feel good and do good” by tagging their July posts with @blueberries on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter or @blueberrycouncil on TikTok. For each post tagged, the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council will donate a dollar to No Kid Hungry. The council hopes to donate up to $50,000 to provide 50,000 meals to families in need.
The No Kid Hungry organization is doing its part to end childhood hunger in the United States. Relying on donations by individuals and other charitable support, No Kid Hungry can provide up to ten meals for kids with each dollar donated. The organization doesn’t focus on purchasing food, but instead invests donated dollars into schools and communities by supporting meal programs, and providing grants to help better feed kids.
While you help other people, know that by “grabbing a boost of blue”, you’re fueling your body and your family’s bodies with a nutrient-packed snack. Blueberries contain high levels of vitamin C, and also vitamin K, manganese, and potassium, all packed into an 80-calorie per cup serving. The peak season for blueberries happens late spring to early fall. The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council provides some foodie-worthy recipes to help you boost your No Kid Hungry social media posts this month.
