Montana Stockgrowers Foundation doles out $10,000 in scholarships

Each year, the Montana Stockgrowers Foundation awards scholarships to college students who are seeking a career beneficial to ranching. Three students were selected for 2022 2022 Heritage Education Scholarship.

To be eligible for the scholarships, applicants must be currently enrolled in college and have completed at least one semester in college, be a member, or have at least one parent/guardian who is a member, of the Montana Stockgrowers Association, and demonstrate a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Applicants enrolled in vocational and out-of-state schools were also accepted.

Applicants completed the application form, included a copy of their current transcript, wrote a 500-word essay discussing their educational pursuits, potential impact of their chosen field and why the applicant feels they are deserving of the scholarship funds, and included two letters of recommendation. Finalists participated in an in-person interview with the scholarship committee comprised of MSF trustees.

Here are the winners of this year’s 2022 Heritage Education Scholarships:

Sage Zook

Zook was awarded a $5,000 scholarship and is attending Northwest College in Powell Wyoming, majoring in animal science. Her anticipated date of graduation is May 2023.


Macie Martinell

Martinell was a awarded a $2,500 scholarship and is attending Montana State University in Bozeman majoring in exercise science. Macie plans on applying to physical therapy school to receive her doctorate in physical therapy. Her anticipated date of graduation is May 2025.


Sage Jackson

Jackson was awarded a $2500 scholarship and is attending Montana State University pursuing a degree in animal science-livestock management with a minor in agriculture business. Her anticipated date of graduation is May 2024.


Last year, the MSF board of trustees voted to increase the number of scholarships given from one to three. The trustees also increased the dollars given to benefit more students in more impactful ways. It’s expected that the 2023 applications will be available in March and due at the end of April.
