The star of “American Harvest” and owner of Olsen Custom Farms made headlines this week when Chad Olsen purchased his 500th John Deere combine.
With 28 family members and employees in tow, Olsen proudly stepped into the brand new machine at Harvester Works’ Station 220, the Gold Key Tour stop where a customer conducts the machine’s first set of systems checks. The event marked the first time a farmer/entrepreneur accepted the honors of starting his new combine as part of the plant’s Gold Key Tour.
Olsen, who has been in business for 25 years, is based in Hendricks, Minnesota, but the crew spends much of its time on the road between Texas and Canada harvesting wheat, milo, canola, corn, and soybeans — and hauling the grain as needed. All in all, they run more than 80 combines.
