Arkansas farmer loses 26 cattle to lightning bolt

Published:

Our hearts go out to this Lonsdale, Arkansas farmer who lost 26 cattle last week after a lightning bolt hit a barbed wire they were standing near.

According to KARK 4 News, the cows and calves were lined up against the barbed wire fence, seeking shelter during Wednesday night’s storms, when lighting struck the fence.

Owner Tommy Rigsby, who has been farming for 65 years, said it was the loudest storm he had ever encountered. His brother found the cattle Thursday morning.

Rigsby estimates he’s lost more than $25,000 and says insurance does not cover animal deaths on the farm.
