Bayer Earns Top Honors at National 4-H Legacy Awards


Bayer’s longstanding commitment to American youth was recognized last night when the company received the National 4-H Council’s 2019 Corporate Leadership Award during the National 4-H Legacy Awards in Washington, D.C. The honor highlights a company or organization that has made a difference in helping foster the next generation of STEM leaders in agriculture.

Bayer was recognized for its nationwide partnership with 4-H on a Corporate Social Responsibility STEM program called Science Matters, which in its brief history has provided more than 25,000 youth across the United States with access to essential agriculture programs and opportunities.

National 4-H Council holds its Legacy Awards event each year to honor those who make life-changing experiences possible for millions of kids and outstanding 4-H youth members who are making a difference in their communities. Bayer was among the many honorees recognized at last night’s 10th Anniversary of the 4-H Legacy Awards including Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Jennifer Nettles, who received the 4-H Brand Champion Award, and legendary, triple crown winning race horse trainer Bob Baffert, who received the Distinguished 4-H Alumni Medallion.

Also recognized were this year’s Youth in Action winners – young people from across the country who went above and beyond in their demonstration of the leadership and values emphasized by 4-H. The achievements of these young awardees ranged from fighting hunger through agriculture and teaching youth about business and entrepreneurial principles, to launching nutrition initiatives and using technology to spark community change.

“The support of corporate partners like Bayer is an important part of 4-H’s mission to provide critical skills development opportunities to young people across the country,” said Jennifer Sirangelo, president and CEO, National 4-H Council. “By investing their resources — financial, technical and educational — Bayer has helped 4-H inspire young people to become the next generation of leaders in science and agriculture.”

Bayer launched Science Matters in 2017. The nationwide program seeks to address the need for more STEM workforce by planting a love of scientific exploration in thousands of youth in urban and rural areas across the country. Through this, Bayer hopes to inspire and grow the next generation of innovators shaping agriculture, food and health.
