Celebrating Dairy Month through the Fill a Glass with Hope campaign

Published:

Dairy farmers, retail chains, and consumers in the Northeast U.S. are celebrating Dairy Month by donating to Fill a Glass with Hope at checkout. Milk is in high demand at food banks due to its perishability, yet it is the least donated item. Together, these partners and the public are ensuring that local communities have the milk that they need to feed their families.

The American Dairy Association North East has teamed up with four major retail chains: Price Chopper, Safeway, ShopeRite, and Weis Markets to bring the campaign to 476 stores.

ADA North East CEO John Christman says, “Dairy farmers recognized this need in their local communities and helped initiate the charitable campaign to help their neighbors.”

Fill a Glass With Hope was originally launched in 2015 in Central Pennsylvania and Pittsburgh. ADA North East, the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association, and Feeding Pennsylvania originally joined forces to purchase milk directly from the dairies and distribute the fresh products to local families in need. The program grew to a statewide event at the 100th Pennsylvania Farm Show in 2016 and has since distributed more than 21 million servings of fresh milk.
