Florida woman arrested for DUI on horse

Published:

In case you missed this crazy story out of Florida Friday, a Polk County woman was arrested for DUI on her horse after a 911 call came in reporting a woman who appeared confused and possibly in danger.

After a field sobriety test and breath samples of .157 and .161, Donna Byrne, 53, was arrested for driving under the influence. A breath alcohol level of .08 is the legal limit in Florida.

The woman was also charged with animal neglect for failing to provide proper protection for the horse, which was being ridden in the roadway, placing it in jeopardy of being injured or killed.

This was not Byrne’s first run-in with the law. Her history includes five felonies and 10 misdemeanors from cruelty to animals and drug possession to probation violation and criminal traffic.
