Iowa man, 12-year-old girl die in tractor rollover

Our deepest condolences go out to this Iowa community after this tragic tractor accident over the weekend.

On Saturday evening, the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle accident just west of Highway 15 on 430th Street. Investigation at the scene showed that the driver Glenn Winthers, 46 of Rolfe lost control of the John Deere he was driving.

The tractor entered the south ditch and rolled over. Winthers and a 12-year-old female passenger were pinned under the machine and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Fort Dodge Messenger, Winters was visiting at the girl’s parents’ house Saturday evening when she requested the tractor ride from him.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Rolfe Fire Department, Pocahontas Ambulance, Pocahontas Police Department, Pocahontas County Conservation, and the medical examiners office.
