New Jersey farmer sues fair: Hot air balloons scaring livestock

Published:

A New Jersey farmer has filed a lawsuit against the Warren County Farmers’ Fair after she said their hot air balloons frightened her livestock.

In the lawsuit, Lisa Van Horn says the balloon rides during the week-long fair at the end of July scared her cattle so bad, a stampede broke out and a calf was killed. During fair weather, up to 30 hot air balloons are launched each night. Van Horn’s farm is about seven miles from the fairgrounds.

Van Horn is seeking unspecified damages and to put a stop to the hot air balloon rides over her farm.
