Pennsylvania dairy scholarships award $30,000 to students

Published:

The Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association, Dairy Excellence Foundation, and Tröegs Independent Brewing have paired up to support ten students enrolled in dairy industry-based programs. The group is recognizing and encouraging these students in dairy-supporting programs with $3,000 in financial assistance for each winning individual.

The Student Leader Scholarship program was established to recognize, encourage, and provide financial assistance to students who plan to return to work in industries that support dairy production in Pennsylvania. Students awarded are participating in dairy and animal science programs, agricultural marketing and business, nutrition, food science, agriculture and extension education, agriculture communication, agricultural engineering, and other related fields.

“We support this scholarship program each year to help keep the next generation of Pennsylvania dairy vibrant and growing. These scholarships also help ease the financial burden for college students, allowing them to spend more time focusing on their studies and gaining hands-on experience across the industry,” said Dave Smith, Executive Director at the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association.

Qualifying students must meet these requirements:

  1. Be a Pennsylvania resident
  2. Be enrolled in a dairy-related undergraduate major or a high school senior planning to enroll in a related field of study
  3. Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a dairy-related career

“We use a lot of Pennsylvania grain, honey and produce in our beers and at our Snack Bar here at Tröegs,” says founding brother Chris Trogner. “And our cheese collaborations with Caputo Brothers Creamery use 100% Pennsylvania cow’s milk, so our connection to Pennsylvania agriculture already runs deep. These scholarships are a great way to amplify that connection and support the future of the industry.”
