Self defense 83-year-old farmer found not guilty

Published:

In case you haven’t been following this story from across the pond … an 83-year-old British farmer who shot a trespasser on his property in self defense was cleared of charges Friday. On Nov. 13, 2015, Kenneth Hugill shot Richard Stables injuring him in the foot.

The farmer, who was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, said he fired the shotgun at the vehicle to try to stop the intruders from driving towards him, not intending to hurt them but only to frighten them off

The farm apparently has already had issues with diesel theft and poaching. Previously convicted for burglary and theft, Stables claimed he and a friend were out night hunting rabbits at the time of the shooting.
