Trump takes flak over leading agriculture secretary candidate

Published:

President-elect Donald Trump is shouldering heavy criticism from Washington, D.C., attorney Gary Baise over the leading candidate for secretary of agriculture.

It was recently revealed that Democratic North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp is the leading candidate for the post, a move that would free up a senate seat that could potentially be snared by the GOP. But the question is whether Heitkamp really would promote the economic interests of America’s heartland.

“All of you need to know that I have been advised that a person on the Trump transition team believes ‘I’ have been causing problems regarding the USDA secretary selection,” Baise wrote Friday in an email sent to about 100 people and obtained by the San Antonio Express-News. “I have been told indirectly to ‘back off’!!! Rest assured I will not. I am speaking and reflecting you, Mr. Trump and agriculture’s best interests (and) not some politically correct solution.”

The offices of Trump and Heitkamp have been mum so far in response, but this criticism is sure to lend more attention to one of Trumps few remaining Cabinet nominations.
