Two children dead after tractor-trailer accident

Published:

The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office in Northern Indiana has reported that two children are dead after being run over by a tractor-trailer, which was hauling corn on a farm near Nappanee.

According to a report by local TV station WSBT, the two children were underneath the tractor trailer when it began to move. Both children were struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The sheriff’s office has identified the children as 5-year-old Jaylin Hochstetler and 3-year-old Kenton Hochstetler. The brothers died from blunt force trauma.

The driver, identified by authorities as 26-year-old Benjamin Sheets, was working with his father at the time of the accident. WSBT said, “Family members tell us he was working with his father on the farm. His dad was driving the combine in the field when Sheets went to pull out with the corn.”

One Facebook post said, “According to family members, the two children lived in an adjoining home to the property. They said they had been playing in the fenced-in yard, and no one had realized they had gone by the truck. The family farming the land and the family living in the nearby home are not related.”

During such a tragic time, our thoughts and condolences go out to everyone involved in the accident.
