Virginia Tech is now home to the tallest drone park in the country. The university officially opened the 85-feet above ground, football-field-sized park Thursday. The tallest netted facility of its kind, the drone park has almost 3 million cubic feet of room to fly around.
The drone park is a collaboration among various university entities, including the Virginia Tech Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership and cost about $1 million to build. Since the park is outdoors, it provides a research environment with realistic weather conditions, and with the net enclosure, research can occur without being subject to FAA regulations.
