Overview

School Website >>

South Dakota State University is the state’s largest and most comprehensive university with more than 200 academic programs. Our students get a personal, practical education on a vibrant campus with faculty that are engaged — not only in the classroom — but also throughout campus. Flexible academic programs provide hands-on learning with professional experiences through internships, study abroad and the experiential learning today’s students seek. We prepare students to make a difference in the world!

The value of SDState is found in excellent academics, affordability through value-driven tuition and scholarship opportunities and a campus community that creates Jackrabbits for life. In addition to South Dakota residents, children of alumni and new students from Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana, and Colorado qualify for the in-state tuition rate. And Minnesota students qualify for a lower out-of-state reciprocity rate.

The West River Research Farm is composed of 111 acres located northwest of Sturgis. The farm was acquired by South Dakota State University in 2018. It focuses on agronomic and livestock research for conditions similar to those in western South Dakota. Researchers perform grazing, cover crop and variety trials. SDSU's statewide network of weather stations, called the Mesonet at SDSU, has a weather station located at the West River Research Farm.
