CA farmer sues oil companies after contaminated water

· May 3, 2017

A Central Valley, California farmer is suing four oil companies for allegedly contaminating his irrigation water and killing his cherry orchard and almond trees. After his crops’ leaves  started turning brown, Mike Hopkins had his water tested, finding that his irrigation water contained the very same salty compounds found in wastewater produced by dozens of nearby oil wells. According to the lawsuit, an abandoned injection well may be to blame as it reaches the same area underground where dozens of other active wells are injecting wastewater.
