How the dairy industry is handling the Net Zero Initiative

· June 8, 2021

The dairy industry is committed to doing its part in continuing sustainability on farms while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Net Zero Initiative is an industry wide effort to achieve U.S. dairy’s voluntary 2050 environmental stewardship goals to collectively achieve carbon neutrality, optimize water usage, and improve water quality by optimizing use of manure and nutrients.

Austin Allred, a dairy farmer at Royal Dairy, said “Dairy farmers across the United States have set a goal not to just reduce our carbon footprint, but utilize the relationship that cows, manure, and soil have to actually pull carbon out off the Earth. That is really unique — only ag and forestry can actually say we can do that.”
