Ride along with the funny ‘Hobbyhorse Revolution’
We’re not sure if this Finnish film will be coming to a theater near you anytime soon, but at least here you can get a taste of what the weirdness is all about.
The funny and moving documentary film, which was released March 31, is “about teenagers with growing pains who discover their own voice and talent through riding and making hobbyhorses.”
Playing with hobbyhorses is a traditional children’s play, but teenage girls and boys have brought the scene to a whole new level. They are unofficially organized, they are online and at the same time very much “in real life”, they are serious — and a growing group of thousands of young people in Finland.
As the creators explain, “Hobbyhorse Revolution is a joyful and adventurous film in the interface between reality and imagination. It is a portrait of a hobby which defies categories and of young people who are brave and true to themselves.”
