Farmer Derek brings science to life with hay-bale solar system

We’ll tell you right off the bat: Science is NOT boring. It helps to bring us many of the tools we use on the farm, our understanding of soils, and insights into crop development. YouTube star Farmer Derek further set out to prove the awesomeness of science with his model solar system — using round bales, of course.

Derek readily admits that his neighbors thought he’d lost his mind a bit when he started setting out hay bales, but then it clicked what he was up to. And we appreciate all this effort, because it’s so wonderful to show young people how much fun science can be and to make science relatable in a way that kids can understand it and (down the road) apply it.
