Hard times erode livelihoods of Virginia dairy farmers

There are no shortage of sad stories about America’s dairy industry — the common three-year cycles of highs and then lows in milk prices is now in a fourth year of hardship, forcing many dairies nationally to close and sell off its assets.

In Virginia, dairy farming comes in at third in terms of agricultural revenue, so a struggle in this sector hits the state particularly hard. PBS Newshour shined a light on what’s happening with Virginia’s dairy farmers and looked at whether they see a brighter future ahead.
