Michigan farmer loses fireworks cow trauma lawsuit, twice
A Freeport, Michigan woman who tried suing for $60,000 in damages after she says the local village’s fireworks display traumatized her cows and destroyed her dairy/beef operation, now must pay. The case, which stemmed from a September 2010 incident, was dismissed after a series of delays, and was then upheld by an appeals court.
Judy Smith, who has owned Pinecrest Farms for about 30 years, now has been ordered to pay more than $30,000 to cover to the parties she sued over legal expenses. Smith still runs the farm, but has quit the dairy side of the business.
