Organic Blues: How farming fits the metaphor of music

KNOW IDEAS MEDIA‘s latest video shows us that growing food is a lot like making music. Different growing systems have different guidelines and rules, and so do different styles of music. There is not one “good” way to grow food, in the same way that there isn’t one “good” kind of music.

Too often, we find ourselves choosing sides in farming, when the reality is that conventional and organic systems both have their place, and defining them as “good” or “bad” is missing the subjectivity of farming. It depends where you’re growing, it depends what resources you have available, it depends who’s eating the crop.

Some of us have wondered if the players behind organic and conventional will ever be amicable to each other.
