Hope Surles, a 16-year-old agvocate, has been visiting farms as part of the Florida Farms & Ranches Beef Tour. Here is a slideshow and her description of her visit to Bill Barthle’s ranch in Dade City, Florida:

Bill Barthle owns a 1,300-acre ranch in Dade City, Florida. He raises Angus & Brangus cattle on his ranch. Upon my tour, I got to see how his operation works & how he maintains a successful family ranch. Barthle is currently being awarded The Florida Association of County Agriculture Agents 2018 Outstanding Agriculturalist Award. Which is in conjunction with UF/IFAS. This award shows how much of a hard worker and beef advocate Barthle is. This ranch has been around since the 1930’s when there was over 20,000 acres. One of the coolest things I saw in my time there was a old video from the early 1940’s. I got to see many old barns(which are still standing) & old hay equipment. Barthle & his family worked both cows & calves in the 2 days I got to tour his ranch. Barthle ‘s daughter, Breely Barthle, showed me how to properly vaccinate calves & even let me help out at the chutes. Mr. Bill sorted out 2 groups of heifers, keeping heifers and shipping heifers in which they will ship in September. He sorted out a few steers for the local fair & he will ship the rest. This tour was definitely one to remember. They welcomed me with open arms & a open heart. There is no doubt the great things that this ranch does in the beef industry & it was an honor to meet Mr. Bill & Mrs. Paula Barthle of Dade City, Florida.

Thank you for your dedication to Florida’s beef ! #showyourpassion
