Van Gogh masterpiece re-created on grand scale in crop field

· May 2, 2019

It’s been a couple of years back, but we don’t think enough folks saw this remarkable feat when it took place. The Minneapolis Institute of Art commissioned renowned crop artist Stan Herd to create a planted version of the beloved Vincent van Gogh “Olive Trees” painting.

Planting began this spring and the final piece revealed itself the following fall — a roughly six-month journey to completion. The 1-.2-acre field location had been chosen specifically so that the growing art can be seen from many flights coming and going from MSP airport.
