Why do farmers want to use glyphosate?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard some recent news about glyphosate. There is no shortage of bad news around this herbicide. Why are countries banning it? Who found out it causes cancer? What’s all this about kid’s breakfast cereal being drenched in it?
