It takes corn 110-120 Growing Degree Days (GDD) to reach emergence. A GDD is a unit of measurement that tracks the accumulation of heat that a plant needs to grow. This corn seed was planted on Friday and has had 76 GDD since then, 20 of them today. Our batch of heifer calves are guaranteed to make you smile! I love watching them and observing their funny and often bizarre ways. When I'm in the garden they usually run over to the gate to let me know (with a roar) to come over and scratch behind their ears and tickle them, and if I'm not quick enough they will rub their heads on my once lovely painted wall. They play together, gallop around the field chasing one another, some bully others, some have best friends, some are little, others are big, some look like old men, but they're all mad for the bottle of milk.
