Get ready for the first virtual National FFA Convention & Expo

Published:

The 93rd National FFA Convention & Expo will be held virtually Oct. 27 to 29, 2020. With those dates fast approaching, FFA advisors and members are gearing up for the first-of-its-kind convention. The National FFA Organization staff, National FFA Officer Team, and everyone in between are working together to make this a great experience for all. No matter where you are as an FFA member — or even FFA alumni — you will be able to participate in the excitement of the National FFA Convention & Expo in some type of way.

Last week, registration opened for the 93rd National Convention & Expo. Ag advisors and members are able to register and gain full access to all interactive and on-demand activities for the virtual event platform. So what should you expect from this year’s virtual convention? Check out the list below to get excited about the upcoming convention.

Gear Up — Before the convention starts, don’t forget to gear up with your FFA pride. Whether that is the convention tee, the Tractor Supply FFA shirt, or finally getting your own jacket, you can celebrate all things blue and gold. Check out the deal of the decade by purchasing your FFA jacket for only $49 right now — the same price they were in 2010. This offer expires Oct. 6. In addition to the jacket, check out the virtual FFA Mall. Although it won’t be the in person FFA Mall, there are still fun, unique things to find.

National Day of Service — For many students, one of their favorite things about attending national convention is helping out the surrounding community. And although many things have changed this year, that is not one of them. The National Day of Service opportunities can be re-created locally and still have an impact for the community and the students. FFA Chapters are encouraged to participate in service days before, during, and after the convention.

Take an ice cold break — Fun activities are always a highlight of national convention. If you have a Culver’s nearby, check out getting a gallon for the members to share. This is a great way to bring the experience of the National Convention to your classroom — without the long line.

Blue Room — The virtual platform will allow for multiple unique situations while also revamping familiar platforms. For example, the FFA Blue Room. Although it has been at the past two conventions, it will adapt to the virtual environment. According to the convention website, “Prepare yourself for an experience that drops knowledge for the future. You’ll see how sustainability and innovation from the world’s brightest minds are solving critical challenges in agriculture.

General sessions – The free, live broadcasts air twice daily and are available on the Cowboy Channel, FFA.org, FFA social media pages. Live general session broadcasts will be available without paid registration.

Central Region Vice President Mamie Hertel summed it up perfectly in this video, “This year, national convention is going to to look different. But that means it is an opportunity for us to be more purposeful than ever before. National Convention is not about how we do it, but rather, why we do it.”

Although you won’t be racing around trying to get signatures from FFA members across the country, be open to the new experience during the 93rd National Convention & Expo. This is your convention and your experience.
