A love letter to all the farm moms on Mother’s Day

Published:

Dear Mom,

I wanted to take this time to thank you for everything you do for me. Words cannot come close to expressing how much I love and appreciate you, but they will have to do for now. On this Mother’s Day, I want to take the time to thank you for everything you do in support of not only me, but also on the farm.

Mom, I want to thank you for more than just having supper ready every night for the whole family when we were growing up. My appreciation for you runs deeper than the clean clothes you always had ready for the family. You were always the best taxi driver when I needed to get from one place to another, which also just so happened to be my favorite time to catch up and connect.

One of my favorite things you have created is our “farm house.” It is not the decorations that I admire — it is with your love that you made the house a place of comfort and relaxation. You and Dad always worked side by side to create every opportunity for me and my siblings. You also provided for my every need while sacrificing your own, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

As a farm mom, you knew the perfect thing to say when I had a rough day. You were the rock for the whole family — supporting each and every one of us in exactly the way we needed love. You were always my go-to when times got tough — you were my shoulder to cry on back then … and still are today. You can take the pain away in ways that only a mother knows how.

Thanks to you, Mom, I look for the light in the darkness. Not only are you there when times are tough, but you also celebrate with us during the good times. You have taught me to love myself and to love others. Your caring nature has carried over into showing love and respect for all things, especially the crops and the livestock. I have also learned to love your advice and guidance (even if I didn’t always listen to it growing up).

With your example of trust, humility, and unconditional love, you showed me what a mother’s love truly means. You are the best kind of farm mom — any time someone asks for help, you are there. You have been the best model of strength, love, kindness, resilience, and hard work. As I have grown older, I truly believe the old saying, “If I am half the woman my mom is.”

Happy Mother’s Day, and love always,

Your farm child
