SUNY Cobleskill was founded in 1916 as the Schoharie School of Agriculture. Today, the College offers one of the most diverse agricultural programs in the United States, including Agricultural Business Management to Animal Science, Landscape Contracting to Turfgrass Management, Fisheries and Aquaculture to Environmental Studies, Culinary Arts, and more. Offering bachelor and associate degrees, students are able to pursue a wide range of studies covering virtually every aspect of agriculture, food production and management.

The College’s ultra-modern agricultural complex serves as a laboratory for hands-on skill building. It includes a working farm, 14 greenhouses, a 10-acre arboretum, a 40,000-gallon fish hatchery, a 200-cow contemporary freestall dairy, a USDA-inspected meat laboratory, an equine complex with an indoor arena, a fully equipped agricultural engineering technology facility, The Center for Environmental Science and Technology, and ninety acres of landscaped campus that provide additional opportunities for outdoor classrooms where theories are put into practice. The campus also offers state-of-the-art culinary laboratories and Rolling Hills Bistro — a student operated on campus restaurant.
