Colorado farmer breaks Guinness record for most hay cut

· July 10, 2018

A Greeley, Colorado farmer is in the spotlight after taking on a Guinness World Record for most hay cut in eight hours and beating it by over 100 acres. The idea struck Tate Mesbergen, 24, after visiting the AgriTechnica farm show in Hanover, Germany last year where he learned a Polish company held the current record, mowing 243 acres of alfalfa in eight hours. Mesbergen said he knew he could beat it.

Driving a Claas AXION 880 tractor equipped with a Disco 1100 triple mower, Mesbergen had to cut alfalfa at three other neighboring farms in addition to his family’s farm to beat the record. But beat it he did. In just eight hours, Mesbergen mowed 348.67 acres of alfalfa.

Now Mesbergen and Claas are awaiting on the Guinness Book of World Records to validate the record.
