The farmer man who made me a farmer's wife and farm kid mama has a "milestone" birthday today. In so many ways, we look at him as "larger than life." And then a birthday like this and a photo like this remind me how small and how short even the largest of lives are in the grand scheme of things. • He says he never thought he'd made it to be 21, much less 60, and if he'd known, he would have done a lot of things different. Then maybe his knees would bend a little easier and his back would hurt a little less often than it does these days. ? • I guess we'd all do things a little different if we knew "then" what we know "now" – but then again, maybe not. Because like we see over and over on this farm, the harvest only comes after the rain and a lot of blood, sweat (and for me, usually tears.) • Sometimes the rain comes fast and hard and it stings – and sometimes the sting comes back even after the rain dries up. But once the crop comes in, it's worth it. We learn from what didn't work and move on from what we had no control over. • That's what this farmer man of mine has done for 60 years. What he's learned, he shares. And Lord willing, our kids will do the same. Lord willing, they will tend the same land and even if they don't, what they've learned from this man on the land they are being raised will help them harvest well wherever God takes them. • In a lot of ways, my husband IS larger than life, because he's never taken a day of it for granted. That may be the best lesson any of us can learn from another. ? #happybirthday #thisfarmwifefarmlife #lifelessons
